Friends and relatives raved about Big Bend National Park as a winter camping
destination, so we decided to make the trip. We left in late December and drove south, camping at 3 Texas State Parks: Eisenhower on Lake Texoma,
Inks Lake, and Choke Canyon, to our first destination, Mustang Island State Park and Padre Island National Seashore south of Corpus Christi.
After 3 days on the gulf, we drove west, camping overnight at Lake Casa Blanca near Laredo and at Seminole Canyon,
arriving the third day at Big Bend National Park. We stayed four days in Rio Grande Village Campground
at the east end of the park, and three days in Cottonwood Campground at the west end.
We returned
through Lake Colorado City and Eisenhower back to Lawrence, a total of three weeks, 3400 miles,
nine hikes, half a dozen bike rides, and three weeks of beautiful South Texas weather and scenery.
Phyllis took most of the photos,
Gary made the panoramas and the Web site.
